The 14-inch MacBook Pro has enough ports that a hub is optional. The Air does not. If you buy an Air, budget a hub with HDMI, USB-A, and a pass-through charge port that actually matches the brick.

Cheap HDMI dongles that do not list HDMI 2.0 will give you 1080p and a shrug. Pay for the certified one if you use a 4K display. Skip the seven-port hubs that run hot; they throttle.
